This article describes how to scratchbuild HO scale propane tanks.
Obtain a fiberglass driveway marker. These are 5/16" diameter.
- Fiberglass driveway marker (from home improvement store)
- Glass E-Beads (from Walmart or craft store)
- Small brads or track nails
- White paint
Using a hacksaw and mitre box, cut to length: 1" long for horizontal tanks, 1/2" for vertical tanks. Chuck the piece in a portable drill or drill press, and turn it against a file to round off the ends of the piece.
The top collar is a Glass E-Bead from the craft store jewelry section.
Use a small drill to make a clearance hole from the top of the tank right through it. Pin the glass bead in place using the brad or track nail. The nail should be long enough to go through the bead, the tank, and stick out the bottom so the tank can be pinned to the layout.
Paint the tanks white and you are done!
