System color schemes

Prototype roads never have their rolling stock in the same paint scheme simultaneously, and the same is true on the Cape Ann. Two color schemes (Phase 1 and Phase 2) are in use on the Cape Ann, composed of three colors: moss (light) green, meadow (dark) green, and black. Locomotives in captive service (yard switchers) and kept in whatever paint as purchased, or if repainted, in solid light green. MoW equipment is grey.

Phase 1 (heritage) scheme: This is the older scheme. It appears on all GP18's, a few F7's, and about 1/4 of the Cape Ann railcars. It also is used on all railroad buildings. Locomotives are dark green over light green. Freight cars and cabooses are the reverse.
Phase 2 (New Century) scheme This is the current scheme. It appears on GP38's, GP40's, BL2's, most F7's, and most Cape Ann railcars. Locomotives are black over dark green. Freight cars and cabooses are the reverse.
Rockland Line scheme This short line uses black over red on locomotives. Freight cars and cabooses are solid red.
Seacoast Line scheme This short line uses dark blue over light blue on locomotives. Freight cars are the reverse. Cabooses are solid light blue.
