In Area 1: Build Discipleship: Pastor Jeff led Advent and Lenten Bible studies, and will be leading a study this Advent on Larry J. PeacockÕs book, The Living Nativity: Preparing for Christmas with St. Francis. Participation in our spring online Bible study, Christ is Risen! Now What? was disappointing, attracting only one participant. On the plus side, the online format functioned well from a technical point of view.
In Area 2: Strengthen the Church Family: The Sunday School program has been struggling with small, single-digit enrollment as well as adequate support for diverse age levels. The low numbers follow as a consequence of our membership demographics. The committee is making one change for 2019: Changing the curriculum from printed material to activity-based; which has been successful on a few individual instances already. Children will remain in the first part of worship as usual, then are dismissed to Sunday School. There are many in the congregation who may be "guest teachers", able to lead individual activities periodically, based on their own experience and expertise; and this could comprise the bulk of the activity schedule.
The committee found it vital to rebuild the Sunday School leadership team to have adequate support, and distribute responsibility. These roles are planned:
In Area 3: Build Identity as Home for the Arts:Josh Miltner completed his project of building and installing the Little Free Library as a service to the community. It has been registered with the official organization, which allows it to be searched and located on their web site; and a plaque is en route. We encourage all to take a look at it and use its resources.
The committee thanks you for your support and welcomes your thoughts.
