Calendar

How did people in the Bible do without a calendar app, and keep track of days, weeks, months, years? This session focuses on how God communicates the passage of time to His people.

Opening:

• Compare the concepts of time as presented: "In the beginning" (Genesis 1) and "In the beginning" (John 1)

Old Testament:

• Timing of the flood (Genesis 10)

• Lifespans:

  Adam: 130 years (Gen 5:3)
  Jared: 962 years (Gen 5:20) (many other similar lengths in Genesis 5)
  Methuselah: 969 years (Gen 5:27)
  Enoch 365 years (Gen 5:23) (but he did not die)
  Noah: 950 years (Gen 9:29)
  Abraham: 175 years (Gen 25:8)
  Isaac: 104 years (Gen 35:28)
  Joseph: 110 years (Gen 50:26)
  Moses: 120 years (Deu 34:7)
  

• Pharaoh's dream, 7 years of plenty, seven years of famine (Gen 41:16)

• Every 50 years: Jubilee (Leviticus 25)

• Every 7 years the Law is read (Deuteronomy 30:9)

New Testament:
